36 weeks
Hi all!! It's Emily here and I guess it's my turn to update you on how the little booger is doing. So we are 36 weeks into this thing which means there are only four more weeks left until we get to see the bug-eyed little monster. And he couldn't be coming fast enough!! If I have to hear about any more aching backs, swollen feet, pinched nerves, or small bladders I might just have to impersonate the doctor and order an emergency delivery, myself! Well you probably didn't come on here to listen to me complain; that's what Kay is for! HAHAHA I'm just kidding! I love my sister so much and I can't wait to be an aunt! So the little trouble maker is now the size of...well...he's pretty much the size of a baby. No food comparisons here, I have a hard time imagining eating 7 lbs worth of anything! I'm not really sure how this whole pregnancy thing works so I don't know everything that is going on inside there and, quite frankly, I'm perfectly happy to remain ignorant to the subject, but I do know that there is a lot of kicking and hiccuping and kickboxing. Well that is really all I have to say on the subject. I'm sure you'll be hearing from me within the next few weeks, I'll be the one pacing in the waiting room, updating everyone on all of the screaming going on!

Week 34
So, we're not so good at updating this thing anymore....sorry :( Would it make a difference if I said we were really busy getting ready for Andrew's grand entrance? Anyways, this week marks the end of my 8th month (pregnancy is really closer to 10 months, the 9 month thing is just to make it sound a little less icky) and I am SO READY to get this kid out! And at our last Dr's appointment, the Dr guessed that he could weigh as much as 6 1/2 lbs! It's very possible that he's smaller than that too, weight guessing is not an exact science, but he said he'd still be keeping a close eye on Andrew's size over the next few weeks, because the last thing I want to do is deliver an 11 lb baby. So, long story short, Andrew's almost as big as a full sized new born, and could possibly come a few weeks earlier than Nov. 9th, which would be very welcome :)
As far as the baby's room goes, we're all ready!!! I have everything all set up, the crib is made, the diapers and wipes are all organized, and his dresser/cubbies are full of super cute clothes just waiting for him to snuggle in! At this point, we're just playing the waiting game. We're so excited to meet our little man! We love you all, and can't wait for you all to fall in love Andrew like we have :)

week 24
So, it's been a lot more than a little while since I last updated this thing...sorry! In my defense, there's been a lot going on :) Let's see, since I last updated this thing, we've found out that our little baby is a little boy (but you all know that already) and we've also named him Andrew Reid (y'all knew that too). Now, things you may not know.... We moved into a new apartment with 2 bedrooms, central air and a washer and dryer and I LOVE it! It has plenty of room for our little family of soon to be 3 and is very comfortable :) We have a crib, changing table and dresser all set up and waiting for our little man. We also bought a travel system (carseat and matching stroller) that I really love....it's compact, tall, light, durable and, most importantly, one of the safest ones out there.
As far as the pregnancy goes, all is going pretty darn well, which is very nice! I'm feeling MUCH better, only puking once a week/every other week and i'm not constantly queasy!!! YAY! I'm getting pretty huge, and I ALWAYS have to pee, but nothing out of the ordinary :)
And as for little Andrew, he's getting (relatively) GIANT!! He's a pound and half this week, and set to gain 6 ounces a week! His face is fully formed with eye-brows, eye-lashes and hair :) He's moving A LOT and getting stronger by the day.
Well, that's all for now! Love you all!!!

Week 16
Yeah... so it's been a while since we updated this thing. Kay finally started feeling a lot better a week or two ago, and then got so nauseous that we had to take her to the hospital and get her an IV because she had been throwing up literally all day. Even when there was nothing left, she just kept on going... usually you hear that in a better context. Of course it happened right when Kay was feeling much better and was optimistic about the rest of the pregnancy. So yeah, our baby's already got a pretty twisted sense of humor.
Now for the good stuff. The baby's getting fuzzy hair, growing fingernails and toenails, and finally has longer legs than arms... fun. So last week when it had fuzzy hair... and longer arms than legs... we were worried that we were having a gorilla. That fear is now eradicated and we can sleep soundly tonight... maybe. Apparently Kay's supposed to start snoring sometime soon. The baby's been moving quite a bit, and Kay gets pretty excited when she feels it. Baby's about 5 inches long, and only weighs 4 or 5 ounces. The website compares it to an avocado. That's a pretty big avocado. Now I'm picturing a baby with the proportions of an avocado... great. Maybe we should find a different website.
We're hoping that Kay continues feeling better and that the baby doesn't strike back with a vengeance. It won't be too long before we know if it's a he, or a she... at this point I'm leaning towards she, because she's fighting dirty.

Week 13
Well, I'm a little late posting this, but I've been busy :) This past Saturday we had a little bit of a scare, but after a trip to the ER and an ultra-sound, we found out the baby is fine. The doctors called the condition a subchorionic hemorrhage, which means there was a small part of the placenta that was separated from the wall of the uterus by a small bleed. Fortunately it was a small area and it already seems to have fixed itself. During the ultrasound we got to see our little one who was jumping around like crazy! Baby is VERY active and has a very strong heart-beat and was measuring a full week larger than he's supposed to be! So, long story short, my child is very large and has lots of energy already...this should be fun :)
This week the baby is supposed to be the size of a peach, but if it's still measuring a week big, it's more like the size of a lemon, but the cutest little lemon you've ever seen! On the ultrasound it really looked like a baby! Bones are forming in his/her arms and legs and the intestines are moving from the umbilical cord to her tummy. Vocal cords are also forming, and he/she is starting to suck on his/her thumb! So cute! :) I love you all!

Week 12
Umm... yeah. So apparently it's Cameron's turn to update the baby blog again. I bet you're all dying to know what changes I've been experiencing. I find myself going to the bathroom all the time, I'm always cranky, oh wait... no I'm not. Fortunately, Kay isn't cranky all the time either. She's been feeling a lot better this week (after all, she's almost done with the first trimester). This means that instead of feeling sick all day and having to take lots of medicine, she feels good most of the day and doesn't take her medicine so that she feels awful at the end of the day.
All in all, Kay's days are becoming more productive and she finds herself with more energy than ever up to this point of the pregnancy. In fact, we got to spend a large portion of the day today walking around looking at just about everything in stock at Babies'R'Us. We're loving this newfound stamina of hers...
So this week the baby is weighing in at an impressive 1/2 an ounce... and is about the size of a large plum. If only some of us could figure out how to maintain that size-to-weight ratio. Most of the baby's system is already developed, but it continues maturing. The baby is even starting to produce hormones... if only we could just skip over that part... and maybe add some more of those obedience genes to make the days ahead easier, and some valium to make those future sleepless nights less... sleepless.
To sum things up, the baby's getting stronger, Kay's getting stronger and Cameron's getting more and more tired. If all goes well Kay won't like this post and it'll be a while before you guys hear from me.

Week 11
So, this week there are less than 30 weeks left in the pregnancy!!! That's right, I'm in the 20's now, high twenties, it's true, but still, 29 sounds so much better than 30 :) These past 4 days or so I've been starting to feel better, which is AWESOME...I have more energy (able to walk around a mall for 2 hours) and I'm down to one dose of Zofran (pukey medicine) a day! We also ordered a crib for baby this week!! We won't have a bedroom for baby until July, but the crib I wanted kept going in and out of stock, so rather than risk not being able to get it, we're just going to keep it in storage until we move. :)
Baby is growing A LOT this week, he's the size of a lime! That's big! His/her hair follicles are starting to grow along with finger and toe nails, and these nails are on individual digits! That's right folks, no more webbed fingers and toes! Baby continues to look more and more human with arms and legs growing more into proportion with the rest of the body. And while he/she is still 50% head, this week the torso starts to lengthen and straighten out just a little bit.
At this point I'm now looking forward to feeling the baby move, which should be about 5 or 6 weeks from now...I'm so excited for that next milestone! Once again, I can't wait for you all to fall in love with this baby like I have, he's already so special, and continues to get cuter and cuter! I love you all!

Week 10
So, I just came back from my first official pre-natal visit, and everything is looking great! We got another ultrasound, and it was AWESOME! We again heard the heart beat, 168 bpm, and saw the little guy again! He/she was wiggling quite a bit, I just wish I could feel it! It was looking more human, we could even see a little profile! My official due date is now November 9th, so I hit 10 weeks yesterday, which means I'm one day closer to feeling better than I thought I was, and a quarter of the way done!!! Woo woo! :)
This week smalls is about 1 1/2 inches long and weighs about 5 grams, or about the size of a plum. Because he's past the embryonic stage, no real development milestones happen this week, just a lot of growing! I'm super excited to be past my first trimester soon, and to start feeling the little wiggles this one is already dishing out.

Week 9
So, I'm not doing too well with updating this blog on time....sorry. Oh well, better late than never :) On Wednesday baby and I hit 9 weeks, which means baby has officially graduated from an embryo to a fetus! From head to bum my little baby is between 1 and 1 1/4 inches long, or about the size of a medium green olive. This week my baby looks even more human! He/she has eyelids and almost fully formed ears. As for the insides, almost everything is in place and the reproductive organs, pancreas and gallbladder are finishing developing this week.
And Baby Bird is not the only one growing this week...my pants are fitting much tighter now and my uterus, which started out slightly smaller than my fist, is a little bit bigger than a grapefruit. I'm still feeling sick, but with a few more better days thrown in here and there, which is nice :) And there is a light at the end of the tunnel! At the end of week 10, next week, my hormones are supposed to finally even out and I'll start feeling better! Woo hoo!!! I'm also excited to hit week 13, because Cameron and I are going to start buying some of the bigger baby stuff that we need....we're thinking it's going to be better to spread out the spending and get the expensive essentials out of the way. The first thing is going to be the crib, and I found a great set that I love! :) I'll post the links to it so you can all put your two cents in on my decorating skills :) I love you all and I'm excited to introduce you to my little baby!

Week 8
So, I'm a little late in posting this week, sorry...Life's been a little crazy :) So first things first, WE SAW THE PEANUT!!!! I had my first ultrasound on Wednesday and saw the little guy/gal and heard his/her heart beat! :) It's amazing how much I've already fallen in love with this little one and how real it seems now! I knew for sure that first time that some smell sent me running to the bathroom, but actually seeing this little one and knowing that I have a little person with an actual heartbeat growing inside me is so surreal, but awesome!
This week the little person is about 3/4 of an inch long from head to bum. It's eyelids and retinas are forming this week and it has a cute little nose now. The arms and legs are growing longer, making it less T-rex proportioned, and it's starting to actually grow fingers on it's hands! :)
As for mom, I'm still REALLY tired, but fortunately I've been feeling much better these past 2 days and I'm really hoping this sticks, but we'll see. Also, my pants have been fitting much tighter these days, but luckily I found some belly bands that I can wear around my pants and not have to button them up! Best invention ever! I continue to be amazed at the new things my body can dish out and at how much my little one can grow in just a few days. I can't wait to meet him/her!

Week 7
So... this is Cameron's first posting on the blog. I'll give you one guess as to whose idea this was. For some strange reason (there are a lot of those these days), Kay wants to hear the masculine side of the story, which is never a good one. Although it seems like there isn't really a good side to the pregnancy until it's over. It's kind of like watching Napoleon Dynamite... it's not funny until after the fact. Don't get me wrong, we're both excited, but definitely wishing the pregnancy lasted 9 weeks instead of 9 months.
Luckily, we spent the first month of the pregnancy without knowing it, which leaves two months of the first trimester. One of those months is almost over, which means that Kay is about halfway through the night and the promise of the dawn that is the second trimester is looming ever nearer. Kay continues to experience never-ending fatigue, and new this week is extreme dizziness. We're hoping it's a side-effect of some new medication, and not a normality for her pregnancies, because Kay has threatened that this might be the only one if that's the case.
As Kay continues to deal with the increasingly numerous and strengthening symptoms, I continue to be increasingly confused and baffled. Without feeling the direct effects of the pregnancy myself, I often find myself wondering how a baked potato at Outback Steakhouse (just the potato mind you, not the toppings) can taste so much better than a homemade baked potato that it's actually worth going out for, or how fatigue can come back with such a vengeance that by the time Kay voices her ideas, she's already changed her mind about doing them.
So Kay says that this week the baby is about the size of a blueberry... or about half of a raspberry. I don't like blueberries. Apparently it's almost looking human. New brain cells are being generated at a rate of 100 cells per minute, which is more than I can say for some of us *cough* Ryan *cough*. He/she is developing eyes, nose, kidneys, lungs, pancreas, the appendix, and don't forget... part of the intestines (because I know you were wanting to know about that).

Week 6
So, week 6 into this party we call pregnancy and the "morning sickness" has hit FULL FORCE. And whoever named it morning sickness was just sugar coating it. It's more like all time, wanting to rip your stomach out, constantly wanting to puke, sickness....not fun. Oh well, it finally got bad enough that my doc gave me some sweet pills to make me not so sick, so here's hoping they work. :) In the wake of all this though, Cam's Clark Kent glasses have come off and he's stepping into the "super dad" role very nicely. :)
And, the reason for all this ickiness is a cute, little, weird looking baby that now is about one 1/2 inch from head to bum. It's heart is now working and he/she is starting to grow little arms and legs. It still has a tail but this week the central nervous system, the circulatory system, and organs like the liver and pancreas are developing. He/she is also developing a spine this week! Growing up a storm and still so small!! I'm REALLY excited for when we can figure out if it's a boy or a girl :) I want to start buying things :)

Week 5
Alrighty, now my little one is right at that orange seed size and looks like a little tadpole, tail and all. This week has been all about processing this amazing news and learning as much about what's going on with my body and with the baby's as possible. The baby's heart if forming this week and so is it's "neural tube", the structure that will eventually be it's brain and spinal cord.
In the meantime, momma is still extremely tired and thirsty, trying to get as much sleep and rest as possible. The food cravings have started to set in, but not at all like what I expected. Instead of ice cream and sweets, I'm craving meat. Red meat. And corn-dogs, which happen to be made from beef....Sunday was the worst. I was really craving corn-dogs or steak and I didn't have any of it in the house, and I got so upset I almost started crying! Cameron took it like a true man and just laughed at me. Smells have also started being not so nice, and the only time I really feel queasy is when something smells gross/strong/weird.
So, I'm looking for some feedback on names. I have them pretty much picked, but I'm always open to suggestions. If it's a girl, I love the name Eliza (Ellie for short) and if it's a boy I love the name Andrew (strong name, and my dad's middle name). Let me know what you think about the names for our little baby! I love you all and can't wait for you all to fall in love with him/her like I have!

Week 4
This week has definitely been the craziest one of my life! I only found out I was pregnant on Monday, and went to have the doctor confirm it on Wednesday! I had a very hard time believing it and kept asking Cam if I should take another pregnancy test. Once I got back from the doctor's office Cam wanted to start telling EVERYONE, and I was pretty excited myself. I was reassured at the doctor's that everything was going well so far, so we were able to gush our news everywhere, I even felt like telling random strangers, but I've been able to reel that instinct in pretty well. :)
Right now our little one looks like a miniature alien/dinosaur/tadpole (inspiring nicknames like "Smalls" and "Littlefoot") and is just under the size of an orange seed, but for something so small, he/she is sure doing a number on mom-to-be! Luckily I'm not feeling sick (yet, keeping the fingers VERY tightly crossed on that one), just extremely tired and thirsty all the time, and as a result of that nagging thirst and those wonderful hormones, my most frequented room has become the bathroom....fun.
So I probably won't post pictures until it's pretty obvious that I'm showing, but I really just want all of our loved ones who are away from us to be included in this incredibly exciting time of our lives. My heart is just so full of love for this new life inside me, and I can't wait to meet my little baby!
